Introduction:
The library cornerstone has been set on August 11th, 1985. The Al Salam Children’s Library was inaugurated on January 16, 1986.
The library is considered one of Egypt's Society for Culture and Development (ESCD) children's libraries. The library contributes in developing the surrounding community educationally, culturally, and artistically. It also provides caring for children and youth by investing their free time in practicing various cultural and social activities.
Library Goals:
·Developing reading habits among children and attracting them to use books, satisfying their needs for knowledge and the development of their imagination.
·Developing children' artistic and sensory taste and encouraging them to express what they read either by drawing or acting or by free writing.
·Formation of social habits and promoting positive attitudes towards authentic human values such as cooperation, sharing; respect the rights of other; honesty, courage; and benevolence.
Information Service:
· Reading.
· Borrowing.
· Internet Access.
· Current awareness
· Listening and watching audio visual materials.
· Mentoring and guiding service.
· Answering reference queries.
Reading Hall:
The library holds more than 16.000 items in various fields of human knowledge.
Activity Hall:
The hall is used in providing cultural and recreational activities for children and youth.
Computer Lab:
The lab is equipped with the latest computers and under the supervision of a specialized technical staff. The lab is used in children and adults training.

Symposium; Cultural workshop; competition & courses such as:
· Young Inventors.
· Human development.
· Developing linguistic and mathematical skills.
· Calligraphy.
Environmental activities:
Implemented in collaboration with several authorities such as: the Ministry of Environment- Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency; Cairo Cleaning and Beautification Agency and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.
Annual celebration of the World Environment Day on June 5th.
Recreational and artistic activities:
- Painting classes for children and adults.
- Puppet Theater.
- Video shows.
- Concerts.
Educational courses:

The library offers English, French & German courses
· Computer courses:
The library offers Computer courses for children and adults, such as office & AutoCAD…etc.
· UCMAS courses:
The library offers UCMAS courses in collaboration with UCMAS Company. USMAS is a global program for developing concentration; imagination; speed; and accuracy in children.
